How Medication-Assisted Treatment works

Medication-Assisted Treatment combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapies to treat substance use disorders. This evidence-based approach addresses both the physical and psychological aspects of addiction.

Our program begins with a comprehensive evaluation to understand your unique situation, including any co-occurring mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, or PTSD. We then create a personalized treatment plan that may include medications such as Naltrexone (which blocks the effects of alcohol and opioids), Disulfiram (which creates an aversion to alcohol), or Acamprosate (which helps stabilize brain chemistry after detox).

Throughout your treatment, our team provides ongoing monitoring, adjusts medications as needed, and coordinates with your existing healthcare providers. Our goal is to help you achieve stability, reduce cravings, and build a foundation for long-term recovery.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

What medications are used in MAT?+

We use FDA-approved medications including Naltrexone (blocks the effects of alcohol and opioids), Disulfiram (creates an aversion to alcohol), and Acamprosate (stabilizes brain chemistry after detox). The choice of medication is personalized based on your specific needs and substance use history. Note that Waybridge does not prescribe methadone or suboxone.

Is MAT just replacing one addiction with another?+

No. MAT medications are carefully prescribed and monitored by medical professionals. They help normalize brain chemistry, block the euphoric effects of substances, relieve cravings, and normalize body functions — without the dangerous side effects of the abused substance.

How long does MAT treatment last?+

Treatment duration varies by individual. Some patients benefit from short-term medication support during the initial recovery phase, while others may continue medication longer-term. Our providers work with you to determine the optimal timeline based on your progress and goals.

Does Waybridge prescribe methadone or suboxone?+

No, Waybridge does not prescribe methadone or suboxone. Our MAT program focuses on Naltrexone, Disulfiram, and Acamprosate, which have different mechanisms and are appropriate for the patients we serve.

Can I receive MAT alongside other mental health treatment?+

Absolutely. Many of our MAT patients also receive psychiatric medication management, ketamine therapy, or other treatments for co-occurring conditions like depression, anxiety, or PTSD. Our integrated approach addresses both addiction and mental health simultaneously.

Is MAT covered by insurance?+

Many insurance plans cover MAT services. Our team will help verify your benefits and discuss any costs before treatment begins. Contact us for a complimentary insurance check.
